In 1895, a gentleman of a rather dubious nature known as Gordon Chetwynd sold what was known then as Rutland Cottage to the 5th Earl of Cadogan. The Earl numbered amongst his closest friends Edward Price of Wales, later to become King Edward VII. Rumour has it that the King himself became a frequent visitor to the hotel and was known to have entertained the beautiful Lilly Langtry. Secret passages are said to exist between Cadogan Hotel and the King's quarters at Palace House. Kevin and Julie Reed have owned the Cadogan since October 2002 and have undertaken a continual improvement programme. The bedrooms, bar and restaurant have been upgraded with further improvements planned. (These do not take place whilst guests are staying). Guests staying at The Cadogan Hotel may also use the facilities at The Edge Leisure Centre at The Bedford Lodge Hotel for an additional 5.00 GBP per person per day.
