Thatched Cottage in Shepton Mallet, England | 63/67 Charlton Rd, Shepton Mallet, Somerset, England (22.6 miles, 36.4 km, direction SE) Traveller's advice circa 1790 'Sleep where the food is good, the wine plentiful and the beds comfortable.' Experience our luxury en suite rooms after enjoying a delicious meal with fine wine in one of Somerset's best \"eateries\". The Thatched Cottage is a beautiful Grade 11 restaurant and Inn with eight luxury ensuite bedrooms rooms. It lies at the heart of the Mendips and has been extensively refurbished and re-thatched to bring the buildings and the facilities up to the very highest standards. Upstairs there are 8 luxury bedrooms, each with a delightful en-suite offering a touch of real class, large comfortable beds and, if you must stay in touch, satellite TV and a broadband Internet connection will do the trick. After a hard day in the Mendips what better way to finish the day than a good meal and a good night’s sleep? Downstairs the contemporary open plan bar and dining room is not what the exterior of the building leads you to expect; light and airy with no artifacts. However there are award winning real als and wines to complement the superb meals produced by Head Chef Fabrice Belier and his team. Lighter meals and an a la carte menu are available lunch time and evenings. We also have a conference/meeting room for 28 - 45, perfect for wedding receptions and private parties. Equipped with a wide screen plasma TV and Internet connections, the room is also popular for training and company meetings. Overall we have gone for a cleaner, lighter and more open look than you might expect to find in a thatched cottage. I think our designers did well and I like the results. I feel comfortable here and I hope you do to. This is all complemented by our staff; friendly, helpful and enthusiastic, they add that old fashioned service which makes your stay here that little bit more enjoyable. The hotel is rated 4-stars by the English Tourist Council and by the AA. In addition the AA have awarded us a Rosette for the quality of the food we offer. Royal Hotel in Bath, England | Manvers St, Bath, Somerset, England (22.0 miles, 35.4 km, direction E) The Royal Hotel has a a great tradition of providing hospitality for over 150 years. Within walking distance of all of Bath's leading attractions. The Royal specialises in short breaks - its central location and friendly, informal atmosphere makes it a perfect location for a short holiday in the lovely City of Bath. This decidedly Georgian looking hotel was built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the famous English architect of the time, for the arrival of the railway in Victorian times and the 'Royal' prefix was given as a reminder of Queen Victoria's visit to the City of Bath. The Royal commenced trading in 1846. The original name was the Royal Station Hotel and because of the growing influence of rail travel and its close proximity to the station in 1852, an upper level footbridge was built directly linking the first floor of the hotel with the station platforms for the convenience of hotel guests. This footbridge remained until 1936. The Royal has changed ownership a number of times during its nearly 150 years of history and in March 1995, PR Inns acquired the business. 'PR' is a small private company, wholly owned by its two partners who are highly experienced hoteliers and restaurateurs. They are committed to continually improving both the physical aspects of the hotel and the standards of service, food and hospitality to ensure that guests have a comfortable and enjoyable visit, which will be repeated many times. A variety of tracks through the forest pass areas untouched by man. In contrast there are railway and industrial workings which have long ago been abandoned and which nature had reclaimed.
