About Oxfordshire

In the South-East of England lies the county of Oxfordshire, one of the most scenic of all English counties and famous worldwide for its University City of Oxford, known as the 'City of Dreaming Spires'. Oxford has a wealth of interesting history to discover and many fascinating historic buildings, colleges and museums to explore. Climb the 99 steps of the 14th Century Carfax Tower for an outstanding overview of the city. Popular tourist attractions in Oxford include the Bodleian Library, the main research library of the University of Oxford, the Sheldonian Theatre, a venue for official university functions and a variety of concerts and an absolute 'must do' for tourists and local residents alike is to experience the exceptional and extremely memorable 'C.S Lewis Tour' which includes a visit to Lewis's former home 'The Kilns' and the beautiful Holy Trinity Church, which was Lewis's final resting place. Lewis, a worldwide famous author was a leading figure in Oxford's most famous literary group - The Inklings and is famed for his novels such as 'Mere Christianity' and the childrens classic 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe'. Other towns and villages in the county worth visiting are Woodstock, where you can visit Blenheim Palace, home of the 11th Duke of Marlborough, Henley-on-Thames, one of the county’s most picturesque towns and popular for the 'Henley Royal Regatta', first held in 1839 and has been held there every year since and Kidlington, the largest village in England which boasts several large Georgian houses along with Hampden House and its 18th century pavilion.
