About Chislehampton
Dreamy village where the River Tame is crossed by a 16th-century stone bridge. It seems the bridge was once crossed by Prince Rupert as he made his way towards a noble victory over the Roundheads at Chalgrove in 1643. The bridge was restored following Civil War damage, and it was widened during the 20th-century.
In the village there are pretty cottages with delightful gardens, lovely river-side and country walks, and a superb coaching inn from the 16th-century. There is small, very picturesque church dedicated to St.Katherine. It was built around 1762, and has a clock-face tower topped with a belltower. Interestingly, this church was frequently attended by John Betjamin.
Chislehampton is amongst many delightful Oxfordshire villages, and close to the interesting town's of Wallingford and Abingdon. The village makes an ideal base for exploring The Vale of the White Horse, the Cotswolds and the renowned historic buildings of Oxford. Both the Thames Path and the Ridgeway Path can be easily reached from the village.
