The splendid interior of St Mary the Virgin . Sir John Betjeman described St Mary`s Wellingborough as the "finest modern church in England" and many other writers and scholars have joined Betjeman in acclaiming St Mary`s as the masterpiece of the Aberdeen-born architect , Sir Ninian Comper .
