About Sandsend
A wildly beautiful rugged coastal area with over two and a half miles of uninterrupted golden sand which in high summer is idyllic for holiday makers, and attractive to surfers, for the bay with its creamy breakers often offers ideal conditions for this and other sea-sports.
Winter puts a different vista on the landscape, as howling gales batter cliffs and boulders, sending its spray over the sea wall to drench the narrow road and pavement of the resort. Beyond the coast you can find a density of woodland, here badgers hide, gentle deer roam, and rabbits scamper on the ground whilst squirrel's grab what food they can and disappear back into a tree. It is very picturesque with tumbling streams, a lake inhabited by swans and ducks and there is the occasional sighting of a heron. These woods are private, so care must be taken to stay within the tracks.
Picturesque Mickleby Beck meets the sea close by, its valley is lined with attractive stone cottages with pretty gardens, and a second stream East Row Beck lies a short distance to the east.
This is lovely landscape, offering a rich diversity of joyous activities from lazing on the beach to searching amongst colourful stones and boulders for pieces of Jet from near by Whitby. Away from the beach are all the pleasures of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, where you can enjoy some of England's finest scenery. Planning a visit to Sandsend?
