About Dartford

This town is most famous for Dartford Tunnel, it is mostly industrialised, with crowded streets, and motorists bound for the tunnel which opened in 1963 and has since become one of the busiest thoroughfares in the region, linking the M25 across the Thames.

The interest of the town focus's on The Holy Trinity Church, this originated in the 11th century and has a Norman tower. Inside there is Early English work and a Jacobean pulpit. During restoration work of the 19th century, workmen made the discovery of an interesting 11th century wall painting.

Other old sites and buildings can be seen, an old Georgian coaching inn, The Bull, with its galleried courtyard brings back memories of when Dartford was a coaching town. There are several timbered houses and a gateway to a palace.

Dartford lies on the outskirts of London, next to the River Thames. Today, it's residents are mostly commuters working in the Capital.
