Until 1980, the south eastern corner of the site was occupied by an old barn that served as a forge and blacksmith's shop for the brickworks, which were situated on what is now the Watermead estate. When the barn was demolished to make way for the annex, the timbers were recovered, sand-blasted, and exported to the USA to be used in the construction of a new dwelling. We hope your time in Reading will be rewarding and that you will enjoy your stay at The Old Forge. If you have any questions, please ask and we will do our best to answer them.
