"Photography is not permitted" inside the cathedral. Apart from them wanting you to buy a guidebook I don't know the reasons, after all they charge you enough to get in. I was sitting with my camera on my lap and managed to get some reasonable results. Not sure if I would have been able to get the whole of the dome if I had been lying on the floor, but that would have brought attention to myself !
