About Exmouth
This attractive holiday resort first gained popularity with tourists in the 18th-century and today it's long sandy beaches still attract large numbers of holiday-makers who return here, year after year.
The waters of the River Exe meet with the open sea at Exmouth and ferry passengers from Starcross on the far bank of the Exe, land near a small dock that is linked with one of Exmouth's most illustrious periods, when in the 16th-century it's small port became an important maritime centre and was used by Sir Walter Raleigh, the Elizabethen explorer
To the eastern end of the shore the beach becomes quite rocky and at this point over a hundred acres of land belong to the National Trust. To the north of the town is the A La Ronde, a house built in 1798 and decorated with shells and feathers. It was built by two sisters, and it's rooms are arranged around an octaganol hall. It is quite unique and well worth seeing. Exmouth has many attractive buildings including a terrace of elegant Georgian houses known as the Beacon. The wide Esplanade is backed by pleasant gardens adorned with shady trees, gracious lawns and flower beds. It is a lively resort and offers a great deal to the visitor. There are boat trips on the Exe and Sea fishing trips. Local attractions include; The wonderful world of miniature and the World of country life. There is abundant night life, excellent shopping, and a range of hospitable inns and public houses. Planning a visit to Exmouth?
