About Nine Ladies Stone Circle, Stanton Moor

This wild eyrie stretch of moorland has an invigorating, yet gloomy feel to it and looking around at the barrows left from the Bronze-Age, you quickly realise that in those days it must have been a place of special religious significance.

With the passage of time, the barrows have worn down, often covered by moorland heather which grows across the moor in rich abundance. What is of interest on this wilderness plateau is the little stone circle known as the Nine Ladies, with a separate King's Stone standing near by.

Apart from the Nine Ladies, there are other scattered stones from the past, as well as the remains of two mounds by the path running alongside of the circle in a north-easterly direction.

If you search around you may find other indication of Bronze-Age settlement, but if not you will still have had a pleasant time in a spot of great charm which leaves you with the feel that you could easily be at the top of the world.
