About Allithwaite

Allithwaite is a small village situated a couple of miles inland from the favoured resort of Grange-over-Sands. It is also within easy reach of Cartmel with its racecourse and old priory.

The village, built mostly of local stone, sports a post office, general store, a couple of pleasant inns, children's playing field and has sporting facilities for football, tennis and bowls.

With the Lake District National Park on its doorstep, Allithwaite makes an idyllic centre for walking or sailing. From the village there is access to lofty peaks, mountainous passes and the beautiful Grizedale forest. Fringing the village, visitors will find the Cistercian Way and the superb Cumbrian Coastal Path, both offer excellent views over stunning countryside and the coast.

Things to do in the area apart from walking is to enjoy a ride on the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Steam Railway which connects to Windermere's Cruise Ships, thus you can enjoy magnificent scenery in a sedate leisurely way.

Fishing is popular, and for the energetic Grange-over-Sands offers two golf courses.
