Bodgers camp at Amberley

A bodger was not a dodgy workman but a skilled craftsman who used the materials around him in woodland to make various items such as fencing hurdles and chairs. He moved his camp from place to place. This camp was set up at Amberley as a demonstration of a traditional craft and on this open day, the bonfire was going, wreathing the area in woody smoke. No sign of the bodger though...

Bus garage and old buses at Amberley

The Amberley Museum is a museum of industrial history and transport. Some of its buildings have been brought from their original location as a way of saving them for posterity. The Southdown bus garage is one of these. On open days, some of the buses are used to ferry visitors around.

The steam crane at Amberley lifts a log

The steam crane is a permanent resident at Amberley, but only steamed up on steam days. It runs on rails but the whole of the top part can swivel to lift a log like this one on to the rack saw bench behind it.

The Main Strike mine tunnel at Amberley, West Sussex
