Ringlet (Aphantopus Hyperantus) Male Underwing View at Chobham Common

The Ringlet is a somewhat common brown species, seen in a variety of habitats such as heathland, chalk hills and other grasslands. The upper side of the wings are a uniform chocolate brown, but the insect's name is derived from its underwings, which have a group of rings of alternating shades.

The Meadow Brown is one of our most common and widespread butterflies and is seen on Heathland and grassland throughout the UK, except for the mountainous areas. It's appearance is very plain, so it does not attract the attention like most butterflies do.

All of our Skipper butterflies are small, even this 'Large' species only has a wingspan of 3cm. They also tend to forage low to the ground amongst hedgerows and borders, so they can be easily overlooked.

The Chobham Cannon, at the Northern End of the High Street

This cannon dates from 1979 and is a faithful copy and replacement for the original of 1901, which was presented to the village by the War Office to commemorate an earlier visit by Queen Victoria. The original cannon was melted down in 1942 as part of the 2nd world war effort.
