Wayside Cross, North York Moors Between Egton Bridge and Goathland on a hill by the side of the road stands a stone cross with both an interesting history and a seat from which to enjoy the view. The cross is enigmatically inscribed KF 1929 - KF was Mr J Kenneth Foster, J.P. of Egton Manor, who arranged for the cross to be erected in April 1929. The cross was designed by Sir E.L.Lutyens A.R.A. and is a copy of an ancient wayside cross on a hill near Vittel, Vosges, France. It was built of stone from the Egton estate. Although the cross was not erected as a memorial it is close to the place an aircraft crashed on 15th April 1917.
