Nice picture. Chapel is through archway.

When I was a boy, Westbury House was the Urban District Council offices. This was prior to the West Wiltshire District Council being set up in Trowbridge (now also defunct as Wiltshire is now a Unitary Authority). The building is now flats.

Church was former Town Hall. Both the banks in Church Street (HSBC and NatWest) have now closed, leaving the town with none!

Main gates to The Hall, inhabited by Sir Alex Moulton (of bicycle fame) until his death six years ago.

East window in Holy Trinity. Another painting belonging to the church was sold a couple of years ago, enabling a substantial restoration of the church building and organ (Henry Willis 3) to be carried out. This was my school church.

Tearooms when I was a boy, flooded, then closed for years. Two very successful restaurants have been here in recent years.

This was my way home from school back in the 1970s.

The Shambles between Market Street and Silver Street. Nice old shops here but no animal slaughter nowadays!

Another view of 38 and 39 from the field beside the church. Can't see garage at 39 as it appears to be obscured by a hedge (or some clever Photoshopping). My father and I converted an old outhouse into a garage in 1970, when I was 13. The picture looks better without it but it would have been interesting to see!

Back of 38 and 39 from the field by the church. Walked along the right of way between the church and houses yesterday with my son. I remember Jack Carpenter's cows being in this field. Jack stopped farming some years before he died but kept his fields. He was a real character, living to 100 years. He died in 2003, a few years after we left and I believe left some of the field for an extension to the churchyard (the part behind the hedge).

Another view of our old house (number 39, now called River Cottage) from the house next door (number 38). Both these houses were originally four cottages 36 and 38 being the house on the left and 37 and 39 the house on the right (where I grew up and later lived with my family). My father bought 36/38 and 37/39 in 1947 when a lot of the village properties were sold to pay off Lord Bath's death duties. He paid £125 for both properties!

My aunt used to play the organ in this church. Many of my family are buried here - both of my father's parents and my aunt among them. The family went back generations on both my grandmother's and grandfather's sides (Trimby and Marshall).

My father was born in this house. I grew up here and lived here with my wife and family until 1996. Visited the village with my son yesterday. He is 30 years old now and remembers his early childhood with his young sisters here. Many happy memories. Wish I still lived here.
