My name is Peter and I've lived in Toronto, Canada from England for 63 years. I'm 89 years old and a Canadian citizen, but cherish my first 27 years in England and my years in the Merchant Navy. I started work as an office boy in Beckton Gasworks, London in 1944, also worked on the bomb damage there, then went into the Merchant Navy at 16 years old. Sailed under 4 different flags, British, South African, Panamanian and Canadian, Deck boy to Bosun, and did my last trip in 1988. After a year's retirement which I couldn't stand, I got myself a shore job and finally retired age 87. I'm a cancer survivor but in good general health now.
