About Selsey

This is a picturesque resort town with a dramatic low-lying headland known as Selsey Bill, from here there are lovely views towards famous Chichester Harbour and the little harbour at Pagham where there is a nature reserve.

Selsey is no longer a village, it became a town in 1995, and in its streets visitors can see a delightful mixture of properties from several periods. Historically, the development of Selsey began way back in the mists of time, with the earliest mention being in 683 AD when it was known by the Saxon name "Seolesige", at this time it was an island, but with the passing of the centuries the coastline has changed and Selsey is now a peninsula, the most southerly tip of West Sussex.

The town has strong seafaring traditions, these are kept alive by a small fishing fleet, indeed Selsey is a Mecca for the fishing fraternity from miles around. Visitors can take a fishing trip from the quay, or a pleasure boat trip to see the stunning West Sussex coastline at distance from the sea. The quayside is always a lively place, here you can see lobster pots being landed and sometimes you can buy locally caught crabs, whelks, cockles and fish! Worth remembering is that locally caught seafood is a daily feature on the menu of most of the town's pubs, inns and restaurants.

This pleasant little seaside town makes a lovely location from which to explore the delights of the West Sussex coast and the surrounding Sussex countryside.
