Woodhalve Lifeboat & Monument

William Woodhave Lifeboat & Monument, Ocean Road, South Shields, Tyne & Wear. 10/02/11 Invented and originally built in the 17th century this lifeboat is a replica. The world's first lifeboat was invented by William Woodhalve of South Shields and is the forerunner of all lifeboats today.The first lifeboat was named 'Tyne' and along with the brave men who sailed her saved many lives. Behind the lifeboat is the Clock Tower Monument dedicated to Woodhalve.
