About Kettlewell

The spectacular limestone beauty of Kettlewell has been appreciated by travellers for decades. It has a series of delightful cottages clustered around the little Cam Beck, a tributary of the River Wharfe as it plunges from Great Whernside. These cottages, now so neat were once occupied by lead-miners, for this was an area heavily mined for its lead over many decades.

Today Kettlewell is a favoured centre for walking. It is amidst some of the Yorkshire Dales finest countryside with the eye being constantly drawn from one spectacular vista to another. The village lies on the lengthy Dales Way, linking Ilkley and Windermere, for the hardy this is a never to be forgotten walk, for the less energetic there are secretive places where you can enjoy a gentle stroll amongst the bright green pastures surrounding the village. Another famous walk offering the most breathtaking views is over Old Cote Moor to Arncliffe in Littondale, taking the return through Hawkswick.

The local church is dedicated to St.Mary, it was built late in the 19th-century to replace a former Norman church. It is known for it's superb stained glass, and its font which is all that remains from the Norman church. The Iych gate is from the 20th-century, as is the clock adorning the 18th-century tower. There is an Alter of English oak made by a pupil of Thompson the Mouseman, this was consecrated in 1985. Its maker, Colin Almack uses a carving of a beaver as his signature, this can be found at the base of the left hand side of the Alter. There are many other inspiring treasures in this lovely house of God, all are well worth seeing. It is a peaceful church, worthy of a little time spent in quiet reflection

Kettledale has several holiday cottages, a hotel and pleasant bed and breakfast homes, and a couple of warmly welcoming inns. Whatever accommodation you choose you can be certain of a friendly welcome and lashings of hearty Yorkshire food.

In the Dales you will find attractive shops where you will usually be served by the owner, in these friendly places you will be able to buy anything from hiking boots to souvenirs
