About Holt

Holt, is a very attractive Georgian town in Norfolk, which after a great fire in 1708 which destroyed much of the town, was almost completely rebuilt with Georgian architecture which makes it today one of the prettiest towns in Norfolk. There are many little boutique shops, art galleries, and places to eat along the high street and in Holt's charming little courtyards and alleyways off the main street.
There is an impressive town cross war memorial in the center of the town, and the 13th century Norman church of St. Andrew stands on the edge of town having managed to escape the fire virtually unscathed apart from its thatched roof which did catch fire.

Byfords, a deli and cafe in the middle of the town is believed to be the oldest building in Holt as it survived the fire.

Holt is the western terminus of the North Norfolk Railway - a heritage Railway line that runs from the Victorian seaside resort of Sheringham, through to Holt, passing through the county’s most stunning coastal scenery. There is a vintage bus service running between the station and Holt town centre.

The town has a heritage trail you can follow 'Holt Owl Trail' where you follow the owl signs. You can pick up an accompanying guide in the tourist information centre in the town.
