Pictures of Hemsby
Hemsby is located close to Great Yarmouth, within easy reach of the fine network of waterways covering the landscape of the Norfolk Broads.
At the centre of the village lies the parish church dedicated to Mary, the Mother of Our Lord. It is this that gives a clue to how long there has been habitation in the village, for a church at Hemsby was mentioned in the Doomsday Book of 1086, although the present church dates mostly from the 14th century. The church is perpendicular, with a chancel, nave and south porch. It has much to interest the visitor including a 20th century east window designed by Caroline Swash, this was installed in 1985.
A road from the village leads to Newport beach which is backed by grassy dunes, there are other lovely sandy beaches all within easy reach, some within comfortable walking distance. The village has a few shops and a local pub, but larger facilities and other amenities can be found at Great Yarmouth.
There are some amusements and attractions, for this is a region of holiday parks and chalet's. With the close proximity of the Norfolk Broads National Park there is plenty of scope for boating and fishing.
