About Coltishall

Deep in the heart of the rich fertile lands that bound the River Bure lies the beautiful broadland village of Coltishall. The fact that this is an ancient village is borne out by it's inclusion in the Domesday Book.

It is an attractive village with a charming mixture of handsome properties dating from several periods. The lands around Coltishall are predominately agricultural and over the centuries the village gained stability from farming, malting and boat building. Victorian times saw the banks of the river crammed with malthouses, the last of these closed in 1927. These days' the River Bure, just below Coltishall is a popular pleasure spot and is often crowded with holidaymakers.

R.A.F. Coltishall, home of the Jaguar fleet and originally designed as a Bomber Base played a significant role in World War II. The entrance to the base is guarded by a replica of Douglas Bader's Hurricane. There is an aviation museum at nearby Horsham St.Faith. The Bure Valley railway skirts Coltishall as it journey's through the beautiful countryside alongside the River Bure.

The City of Norwich is a short distance away, so too, are the wide sweeping beaches of the Norfolk Heritage Coast. The area has some lovely old windmills, and the gardens of Fairhaven, a short drive away are well worth seeing.
