This is a picture which demonstrates the difficulty of photographing church interiors which include stained glass windows. This example has the interior well exposed, but the windows are devoid of detail. On the other hand, if the window detail was to be seen, the interior would be excessively gloomy. This means extra attention is needed to get a pleasing result. First of all, careful exposure readings are needed, preferably using spot metering rather than average or evaluative metering, and then making a considered decision as to camera settings. Other techniques might help, such as using flash or HDR mode.
