Once a tiny fishing village, this pleasant seaside town was laid out as a resort in the 1830's, since this time it has consistently flourished to become the lively place we see today.

Herne Bay is a town that has fortunately kept its Victorian atmosphere. The principal feature of the seafront is the town's lofty clock tower, dating from 1837 and there are many well preserved buildings dating from the same period. The beautifully restored Victorian Bandstand also houses the Herne Bay Information Centre.

The beaches here are amongst the best in Europe, Herne has the prestigious Blue Flag and the Blue and Gold Flag, so visitors are assured of safe, clean beaches. Water-sport enthusiasts are well provide for, there is a friendly sailing club and a rowing club. The Zapcat racing championship has been held in the town and there are opportunities for deep sea fishing trips as well as boat trips exploring sea bird life and seal watching - these mostly leave from Neptune's Arm.

This is a town of pleasure where much has been done to ensure an enjoyable time for everyone. There are several annual events including the famous August Festival, featuring a colourful carnival and firework display.

Visitors will find a high standard of accommodation, gift shops, cafe's, bars and restaurants offering freshly caught fish and seafood. There are fascinating museums recalling the town's rich maritime heritage and a host of activities to suit every member of the family.
