Stoke Gabriel lies in the upper reaches of the beautiful River Dart estuary, it is a quietly tranquil place and the attractive creek has been dammed to form a picturesque pool in an area that is shaded by trees. At low tide the shore consists of mud flats and it is a popular spot from which to launch boats onto the Dart and down to open sea.
