About Portloe

The Jewel in the Crown of the Roseland peninsula, Portloe is one of Cornwall's most attractive coastal villages. Escaping development due to the steep valley on which it is built, Portloe is an historic fishing and smugglers village. It once supported a small drift fleet and a seine fishery, and still today fishing continues, and lobster and crab potting. A trully enchanting place to visit, and in the words of Sir John Betjeman (famous poet 1906-1984) "One of the least spoiled and most impressive of Cornish fishing villages"
