Description

Helier's Hermitage Near Elizabeth Castle

When Helier lived here in the 6th century, this rock was an island, separate even from the tidal Islet on which the Abbey stood and which is now the base of Elizabeth Castle. The Hermitage would have been no more than 4 roughly built walls and a roof, as hermit's lived extremely basic and simple lives.
