The Horns of a Dilema

The Horns of a Dilema

A portrait of the Kidwelly Stag by Sarah Tombs. I don't know where it will end up now that it's allotted display time has ended, of all the art displays that were at Kidwelly Castle this and an upturned bell appealed most.

Gwendraeth Fach

Gwendraeth Fach

A view from within the Castle overlooking the River Gwendraeth and what I think must be a flood plain. I have read in more than one place this Castle seen in the early morning when there is a mist is a superb is a great photographic subject. Wish there was mist when we were there, but the sun was good.

Kidwelly Castle

Kidwelly Castle in all it's glory, standing proud over the River Gwendraeth was originally a wooden building dating back to early Norman times. The stone Castle was built over a period of time from the 1200s to the 1470s, it's main purpose was as a defence against the Welsh. It did in fact fall into the hands of the Welsh on a few occasions and was besieged by Owain Gwyndwr in 1403 but this was an unsuccessful attempt. The castle has been owned by the Chaworth family and later the Earls ( later Dukes ) of Lancaster.

The Kidwelly Stag

The Kidwelly Stag

We will jump right into this little tour of Kidwelly Castle with a look at something rather modern. I have noticed when visiting some of our wonderful buildings from the past that quite often they are host to some exhibitions or settings to display art in all it's forms- quite often modern. Whether this is a good or a bad thing I guess would be a personal opinion. Here at Kidwelly Castle my shot shows a sculpture of a stag by Sahra Tombs. I did a quick look on the web and it seems this exhibition was to be from June to mid September, however our visit was the end of September and the Stag was still here so I will share it with you all.
