Rydal Water 4

Looking north east from the south side of Rydal water back towards Rydal with Nab Scar basking in sunshine behind. As mentioned in the previous image paths are being widened into something resembling motorways!!! This path which leads from the rocks mentioned before used to a typical Lakeland track about 3 feet wide, roughish but a pleasure to wander along. Once again I suspect it has been done to suit the coach trippers that stop near White Moss for a couple of hours, but I suppose they are the ones that spend the money in the shops!!! So they must be looked after!! 22-7-14

Rydal Water 3

Rydal Water 3

Looking west along Rydal Water with Silver Howe in mid distance. You can just see orange and yellow on the very left which is workmen 'ruining' the nature of the walk alongside Rydal Water. What used to be a choice, depending on height of water, between a gentle scramble over a small rocky outcrop or a shallow paddle round the rock, is now being transformed into 10 ft path around the rocks. Another picture was taken later in the week so may appear in due course. I have not heard anyone yet who agrees with it but can only assume it has been done to make life easier for the Japanese tourists who like to walk round the area in their 'Sunday best' certainly not sensible fell clothing. 22-7-14

Herdwicks at Rydal Water

Herdwicks at Rydal Water

Herdwick sheep are the native breed of the Lake District and live on the highest of England’s mountains. They are extremely hardy and are generally found running freely on the fells. These chaps however were in a field bordering the southern shore of Rydal Water. Every photographer should have one in their kit bag as they are as close to a metering grey card as you will ever find. They also produce very tasty meat and to quote a local farmer from the Langdale Valley 'Our lamb is not mass-produced, factory farmed or force fed but slow matured – it is ready, when it is ready'

Old barn Rydal Water

Old barn Rydal Water

What a waste! This barn has been like this for as long as I can remember. Like to climb over the wall and have a good look round, but it's on private property. Dec 2013

Rydal Water Wall

Rydal Water Wall

A lovely bit of dry stone wall jutting out into Rydal Water at the western end of Rydal Woods just before leaving the woods for the shoreline path towards Grasmere. As you can see quite clearly it was another of those wet days that I seem so lucky to encounter with amazing regularity
