Accrington Pals

Accrington Pals march past Accrinton town Hall on there way to training prior to being sent over to France. This was an experiment, someone in Whitehall suguested that men would fight harder if they fought alongside there friends and relations. The men (and boys) of Accrington and the surrounding towns were recruited to to test the experiment, Families, sons, brothers stepped forward, were sent to the Somme in France and Died on the same day. The male side of many local families were wiped out in a srike as this foolish experiment failed. Books and memorials can be found localy that document this issue. I salute these brave souls.
