Its every January Jane. Its to do with Plough Monday which is the first Monday after Epiphany, or Twelfth Night. I think they used to have various celebrations in this part of England.

Thanks, Hambleton is a very small village right in the middle of Rutland water so apart from one access road it is completely surrounded on all sides.

Thanks, yes a statue picture is just not complete without some kind of bird sitting on someone's head! I'm not sure how old this is now as I seem to remember it from a few years back.Apparently Leicester may have got its name from King Leir of Britain, a mythological pre-Roman king whose body is supposedly buried under the River Soar around here.

Thanks for comments. Yes Stephen,I think too many people think you need an expensive SLR to take decent photos.I was thinking about one myself but its too much equipment to carry around if you do a lot of walking in the hills.(and falling down!)
