Spurn head is at the mouth of the Humber estuary, more or less opposite Grimsby, Lincolnshire and is a very busy shipping channel. Vessels heading in from the North Sea pass Spurn on their way to places such as Hull, Immingham and Goole.

The big ships come quite close to shore here, with the zoom lens you get a good look. Note the chap on his phone!

With its' shifting sandbanks, the Humber is a treacherous place to navigate. The pilots do an incredible job guiding the commercial vessels safely to port.

This is where the pilots moor....the lifeboat also uses the jetty.

Radar and satellite navigation has made these wonderful buildings a thing of the past. To me it's a shame, they are a part of our national heritage, let's hope a lot of them are preserved.

Decomissioned years ago, the lighthouse still stands and is is relatively good condition.
