The Humber pilot, Kilnsea, East Riding of Yorkshire

With its' shifting sandbanks, the Humber is a treacherous place to navigate. The pilots do an incredible job guiding the commercial vessels safely to port.

Ship leaving the Humber, Spurn head near Kilnsea

Spurn head is at the mouth of the Humber estuary, more or less opposite Grimsby, Lincolnshire and is a very busy shipping channel. Vessels heading in from the North Sea pass Spurn on their way to places such as Hull, Immingham and Goole.

Old gun emplacement, Kilnsea, East Riding of Yorkshire

I think this is a WW2 gun emplacement, please let me know if I'm wrong.

The not so old lighthouse, Kilnsea, East Riding of Yorkshire

Radar and satellite navigation has made these wonderful buildings a thing of the past. To me it's a shame, they are a part of our national heritage, let's hope a lot of them are preserved.

The old lighthouse at Spurn point, Kilnsea, East Riding of Yorkshire

Decomissioned years ago, the lighthouse still stands and is is relatively good condition.
