This is the second site for the cenotaph, as the first one dropped down into the one of the towns miles of sub- terranean tunnels; some of which a horse and cart would comfortably fit in.

I remember this as a small pub with a draughty flat roofed building that had a pool table inside; also almost surrounded with water during the floods of March 1977.

This over head crane would have probably been used by my dad, Frank Carter, who was an overhead crane driver at Marshall's in the early 1960's before doing a similar job at West Burton Power Station on a much bigger overhead crane when it opened around 1963.

This pic was taken on the path down the side of Rek; the bushes going into the dip takes you on the path to the cemy further on. Nice pic otherwise.
