Now an Hotel. It marks the centre of the Forest of Dean. Built c1676 as a hunting lodge for King Charles II. It then became a Verderers Court, a sort of Parliament. for the Verderers and free Miners managing the Forest, its Game and mineral resources. Around 1840 it became an Inn, and in the late 19th century an Hotel. The old Verderers Courtroom is now used as a restaurant
