About Me

I was born in Spennymoor, Co. Durham on 19th October 1943, and now live in the village of Binchester, just outside the town boundary.
I have been a single parent since my wife died of cancer in 1990, and since my family - 2 boys and 2 girls - are now 'all growed up' (actually the two boys tower over me, though since I'm only 5'2" I don't suppose that's difficult) I've found a lot of satisfaction in voluntary work with a local Community Newspaper, Spennynews, which delivers about 11,000 copies a fortnight to every home in the town of Spennymoor and it's outlying villages, free of charge.
My interests are reading, writing, photography, history, heritage and education, and a few months ago I founded a new volunteer group, Spennymoor History Group, to research and rewrite the history of Spennymoor, in SW County Durham. It's going to be a long job - the research needs to be painstakingly slow because accuracy is the only thing that matters, but we may be ready for our first publication in about 2010. We may have enough material to open a website early next year.
I enjoy what I do, and think this is the best medicine anyone can have, whether for their body, soul or spirit. I love to post on the POE site, and the people here are the friendliest and finest you could ever hope to find.
