St. John's Church The grave of Sir Roger de Fery shows how badly it has withstood the ravages of time and climate. Sir Roger (after whom the town of Ferryhill is named) is said to have slain a wild boar that was terrorising the area. Possibly 'The Brawn of Brancepeth' The name Brancepeth is derived from 'Brawn's Path'. Another historic grave in the churchyard, which was closed to burials in 1989, is that of RN Surgeon John Stokoe, who attended Napoleon during his exile on St. Helena. The Gurkhas - and Me! I'm not sure how it happened - one of those things, I suppose. One minute I'm photographing them: then before I know it, I'm in the middle of the action (the daft looking old guy next to the Parade Marshall) and someone else is pointing the camera! Remembrance 2007 - The Old Poppy Seller Before the day, thousands of people around the country give up their time to sell poppies for the Haig Fund (Royal British Legion). Not many of them are this ugly, I dare bet!!! Don't know who took the photograph - it obviously couldn't have been me - but the camera was mine. Remembrance 2007 - Parade Marshall lays Gurkha's Wreath Parade Marshall Arnold W. Sanderson laid a wreath on behalf of the men of the Gurkha Regiment, who were prevented from attending because of a commemoration of their own that falls on the same date.
