Hi,

I have just discovered the site and joined and have started uploading photos. I have found that it is terribly slow. Is it possible to have a photo upload something like the dedicated photo sites. Photobucket has a multiple upload option and you can see which photo is being uploaded and which have completed.

The whole time I have been typing this IE8 page progress bar has completed but nothing has yet appeared!

I have a lot of photos of old properties in Enfield and your site has not one photo yet but if it takes this amount of time to upload one photo I doubt whether I'll upload many!

This is a fantastic site run by a small number of dedicated people Terry and not a 'bucket shop'. Also may I remind you that unless you own the copyright of photos you intend to upload terry you should consider any that you are choosing to post.

All the photos I have uploaded were taken by me. I have noticed others on the site that seem to be postcards or old photos that are probably not owned by the contributors.

I agree it is a fantastic site but a multiple upload facility would help enormously.

Welcome to POE, Terry. I'm glad you have found us, and I know you'll enjoy looking through the wonderful photos here.

I can't help you with the upload problem, I'm sure Ron or Chris will be here to answer your questions soon.

 I must confess, I am looking forward to seeing you pictures of Enfield and any others you care to share.

And you make a good point about the postcards, I hadn't though of them and copyright laws before.

Hi Terry, welcome to the site - will look forward to seeing your photos. The upload speed is slow I agree but this is a family run site funded by mostly donations and a few adverts and the hosting costs are crippling for Chris and Sarah. So if the photos loaded faster it would encourage people to load far too many photos and would probably end up closing the site! I have quite a few on here myself now but I have enjoyed loading them a couple at a time over the whole time I have been a member. What I try to do is just pick out my favourites and the ones I think will be of particular interest - and as you rightly pointed out the areas which have no photographic representation. I am sure you will enjoy the site even if it is at a much slower pace than you are used to.

Stephanie hit the nail on the head - its all to do with the hosting costs, which right now are stopping us from doing any further development. We're not about to abandon ship though and still have great plans for the site once we can turn things around, one of them being a much better and faster upload facility along with many other improvements.
