I don't understand why you need to have a password and login if all the world can read your posts? We are such a great family and sometimes personal things are discussed that you cannot always hide. I just think it would benefit all of us to protect our privacy. What do you think?

Yes Cathy, I have just tried without a log in and you can read posts but not make a reply . Maybe POE could rectify this.

I have nothing to hide but there are some things on this site that are quite personal I agree, and should not be for all the internet world to see.

Can I add, I think that Cathy has made a valid point. The forum should be by password log in for members only.

On the other hand, dont you think that if it was a members only site, people would be put off from joining a site that they couldnt see what it was about first.

If the forums were for members only, then that is a different thing alltogether. But even then, it would be impossible for POE to vet applications for membership.

I agree that because we have become a family of close friends, it is very easy to say things that we would not wish strangers to know.

Valid points all around. Maybe Jason is on to something!  Of course, the last thing we want is to heap more work upon Chris and Sarah. Still, I think a members only forum is not a bad idea.Smile

Seeing as adding to the forums is by way of membership only, I don't see that a restriction to outside use would be so difficult ?

I could be wrong , like to hear what Chris and Sarah think.

I would say you log in to protect your own posts. So that nobody can post under your name and cause havoc.

We are always welcoming new people to the forum and part of that process is for them to read other posts and get a feel for the community. I think many people have been attracted here by our banter and general good feeling.

The only way I think we can protect our privacy would be to have handles/pseudonyms. Like I would be known here as Awie.

Of course if anyone who is familiar with us comes onto a forum and reads our posts, knowing us personally, they would still be able to figure out who we are. i.e. if my son were to go onto my LOTR forum, I think they would figure out who I was because my posts are very much who I am so they would recognise that.

As for the private forum suggested by Jason, that is good, but think of how many of our little group have been added along the way, that means that there are others out there who will join us that would fit into our group like a hand in a glove. We would be doing a disservice to them and ourselves to block them.

I hope I have not misunderstood your meaning and gone off on a tangent, that would be terribly embarrassing     .
