I live in Canada & my sister lives in Oregon, USA. We have decided that we would like to go back to Cornwall where we were evacuated during the last war. We would like info about accomodation & transportation. We are interested in the area around The Lizard, Rinsey Cove etc.        If anyone has info about evacuees there we would be very interested in hearing from you.  Thanks,  Rita

Accommodation is easy Rita and you can help POE at the same time. Book your accommodation securely online through this website and you will get it cheaper than going to the hotel. Here is the link to get you going, and good luck with your trip:

Hi Rita, and a warm welcome to POE.  How lovely to be planning a visit to England!

If you type the name of any place you wish to visit into the search box on the top left of the page, lots of information, pictures and accommodation options will show up.  I am sure you will enjoy looking at all the lovely places Cornwall has to offer the visitor.

Hello Rita,

I found a book about Evacuees in Cornwall. Its called Guttersnipe by Ronnie Rainbow. It contained a lot of details about being evacuated during the war.

Thank you, Sam for that info. I will certainly be looking for that book.  I'm surprised to see that my enquiry was May '11. Our trip will be in May '12  --- a year later. We will be in Cornwall & Cumbria where we will stay with our other war-time family.
