OK John,  Good luck with the research

    Heres a quick one

'We're on the rope'     is a line from a popular perennial film

What is the title of the film and the name of the actor and character portrayed ? ?

I've had a think whilst taking my life in my hands attempting to walk down into the village on the treacherous pavements, there were two films that came to mind, first The Guns of Naverone, and The Great Escape. I'm going with The Great Escape for starters.

Then I'll have to work on the actor.
