Yes John. I've forgotten the original question Undecided

But this is the answer.

David Blair (shared surname with PM) was the second officer on the Titanic, at the last minute he was replaced. When he packed he took with him, by accident it seems, the key to the Crows Nest locker which contained the binoculars for the two lookouts. The lookouts had no access to binoculars throughout the voyage.

During the inquest, one of the lookouts named Fleet was asked if having the binoculars would have played a part in the prevention of the loss of the ship. To which he answered "Yes, we would have seen the iceburg in enough time to avoid hitting it"

This was a seemingly simple chain of events along with other factors came together to claim the ship and so many lives.

Yes John, it's all a bit of a mish mash. There are conflicting reports on everything. I got my info from last weeks documentary. It seems as if they'd have hit the iceberg head on instead of turning in either direction she would have stayed afloat. Then there's the question of speed, the Gulf Stream, it goes on. All in all a big mess, but that's how history is made.
