I'll be praying that you find something soon - something that you find challenging and fulfilling. Keep your chin up - like you said, you're determined not to be discouraged. Keep in touch, dear friend. Your POE family is here for you. Love and prayers, Ruth. | Diana Sinclair

I think I'd have to look very closely at the industries/companies I was applying for a job. The main criteria would be a good chance of being made redundant. Then, after what ever period of employment, I'd be made redundant and get my tax free ( up to £30K limit) redundancy payment. Then I'd look for another job with similar prospects.. Then, when prospective empoyers ask why I left my previous job, it would be because I was made redundant----nothing to do with me ! So, with any luck, a large part of my yearly salary would thus be tax free. Then, if people asked what I did for a living, I'd tell them I was a redundancy consultant.
Lol. Paul, you're funny. It's good to keep a sense of humor about these things! Seriously, thank you to all my friends here on POE for your kind words of support. If anyone has tried to email me privately I would not have received it as the email account linked to POE was my work email. I will email Chris and Sarah and ask them if it's possible to change that. I am choosing to see this as an exciting opportunity. The layoff occured at the end of a pay period so I don't have a check coming to me but the company did give me two weeks severance pay which was generous of them. In two weeks I will be eligible to claim unemployment and will be able to start collecting approximately 4-6 weeks after that. So, while the next 6-8 weeks will be a bit tight at least I know I'll have unemployment kicking in soon. God will provide. :-) I have to pop out for a while but will try to get back on POE later this afternoon.

If you go to My Account, you should then be able to edit your email to something else. I don't think my ploy would work too well in the US, but might have some merit in the UK. It can come as a bit of a blow loosing your job out of the blue, even in my case when I'd thrown away 19 years service to get away from my employer---and in Sept, they'vs been getting rid of staff and moving them around to other branches, and this time next year, I'll be suprised if they're still about---why I walked out nearly 3 years ago. But, 2 days after sacking myself, I'd been offered a new job---and a pay rise to boot! But, I have been lucky I think in my 40 years of working so far, as of Sept 2009. One thing i've found is there's no such thing as company loyalty, though i have always given my employers more than what they were paying for. Good luck with looking for new working possibilities and look forwards to hearing you've found something suitable soon. Edited by: Paul Hilton at:4th November 2009 16:34 | Ron Brind

I told him that I was being forced to most likely quit to be with my son (toddler)on Sunday's..that in truth, I had earned the right in seniority. I asked him what made him become an preacher, and I thought he'd left his soul it was so "enlightened" around him and he seemed so elvated in ways. He said simply..it was an "calling". He came in several times, and always asked how I was doing. Had an woman with him I thought was probably his wife. It was actually the Employment discrimination board that forced me to make an stand, and get fired...because I didn't come in that day. They wanted me to take this to Seattle District Federal Court...it wasn' tuntil then I found out the company had an hefty long line of doing such things previously to other people. Mostly women though. I guess I should of persued it, I didn't I fel twhy should I go back to someone that didn't want me but to exploit me to begin with. The union they had knew me as an supervior from an previsou job of an place they tried and failed to get inot and wouldn't back me either. they were trying to pull off on me, new manager, new set of rules. New scheduling...you'll work every weekend...and they wanted that as the knew they could depend on me to show up andbe there.Anyway, I left. Abotu an month later getting into genealogy work, I got an picture sent ot me of this man I had been talkig to at the store, of all things...it was my hubby's deceased granfather. I just sat there staring at the picture.."naw, couldn't be.".I thought. He told me to go north for some reason...many years later...I know why. That is where the family legacy on my side with an "James" went to also...and could be carried onward "naturally". So you never know what the reason for things, but they work out eventually I guess. It is though an kind of "shock" you have to get over when it first happens, Diana, is perhaps understanding that now, as she prepares for another path down the road to life in ways. Must be some kind of learning expereince she needs...and may it be an better one. Maybe it will catapult her into her own business venture in that cottage she's always wanted to own...an "home" business of some kind. One of my gals and her mother had such an business, they made some 5,000 teddy bears one year at $20 an bear.. as an side-line to earn money....An 8 year old scout one year made bird houses to help him earn the money to go to camp...ended up selling 10,000 of them. It just takes finding the right opportunity. | Diana Sinclair

Best of luck in finding a new job, but in the mean time, enjoy your time off! (hopefully it won't be too long). xx |
