I made these bows of laminated ash wood. I tried to fashion them as elven bows. They are called "recurve" bows, because the beam bends against the relaxed curve, "re-curving" the bow in the other direction. The idea is to get more energy out of the bow just as the arrow leaves the string.

This is a detail of one of the leather handles I sewed onto a bow for my nephew Cody.

Tengwar is the name for the elvish lettering in Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. These inscriptions say that the bows are "from uncle Denny to Cody; Andrew" or "Timothy." I learned to write Tengwar from the internet.

This is the quiver that I made for one of my nephews. I still have to make two more! It is my second leather project, the first being the handles on the bows.

Here's a picture of one of the bows strung and ready to use. We also learned how to weave the strings in what is called a "flemish weave." This too can be learned on the internet!

Here's a close-up shot to highlight the elven lettering. I wrote a descriptive title for each boy, such as: "Cody the Brave" or "Andrew the Swift."

I made these bows for my three nephews, inspired by the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

They are very good Dennis, when I need a new one i'll know where to come Wink I bet your nephews are as pleased as punch with them.. I'd give you a five star rating for each photo if I could, and 10 for the effort it must have taken to make them. well done!

Thank you POE!  Thank you also for allowing "off-topic" pictures.  I'd love to see crafts, art or any other work by the participants of POE.  Anybody game?

Would you be able to create a category under "Attractions" called "off topic" or "England Inspired" or some other such title?

I'd also like to start a thread with pictures of Ron's C.S. Lewis tour.  If we could insert pictures in the proper order, perhaps it could become a linked site for people who buy and read Ron's book, so they can see photographs depicting the places Ron discusses there.  I will be submitting some of my pictures from our recent tour, under "Oxford."

Dennis

The only thing I feel i'm remotely any good at Dennis is what I put in POE here, photo's, i'ts just a hobby of mine, i'm no expert,   but if I see something I like I snap away, I may delete half the photos I take as they're probably no good but I enjoy it lol
