modern windmills

I know we are all supposed to embrace so-called 'Green' energy but arn't we going overboard with wind-farms?. Our 'green' hills are fast becoming a breeding grounds for these 'monsters', the latest being opened in Scotland only today. I can tolerate the odd one or two, but our beautiful coast lines and hill sides are being polutted by concrete turbines that, lets face it, dont generate that much electricity anyway.

I remember a few years ago at a site not too from me, they wanted to plant a forest of fast growing fur trees on the  moorland .  Protesters successfully objected that it would alter the natural sky-line and the sceme thrown out. I drove over there (the Rossendale valley, Lancashire), last week and its covered in wind turbines. Add to that, telcommunication towers and, well there wont be many fantastic veiws to post on POE before too long at this rate.

Michael, they are trying to put one up here off the shores of Nantucket Sound. People are not amused.

Dark Satanic Mills?

I personally think that these 'windmills' have a stange beauty of their own. I envisage a time in the future when people will regard them with the same affection accorded to the old windmiils. I think they are a useful landmark to navigationally challenged, pre Satnav drivers; who can spot them in the distance and know they are heading in the right direction!

LOL. but don't forget, people were frightened of the first car.How would we manage without them now? You would be OK I know: you would stay with your country cousin and ride on a hog's back!.

I take your point Michael, and yes, if 'The hills are alive, with the sound of whirring', I can also see the tranquility of the countryside being disturbed somewhat. but I uderstand that each application for these farms is carefully considered and the situation would not reach a point where they litter the countryside at random.

I think also that Don quixote would be pleased to see a few too!

Regarding the Satnav. I need a Satnav to drive to work every day, my sense of direction is terrible!

 I love the windmills, I love the older ones more but these were just wonderful to look at when we were in Scotland soooo massive! But I dont have to live with them..;-)
