It's been 300 years since a British Speaker of the House was given the heave-ho.( that's pirate talk for 'over the side' with a possible side-dish of keel-hauling )

I watched and listened on Sky to Michael Martin's resignation and was amazed to see and hear him read from an obviously 'prepared earlier' statement that made him look like a ten year old kid at school! If you get chance to hear it, listen to him almost come to a halt as he struggles to read what I assume somebody else has written for him. Wouldn't you think he could have faced the members and made a very simple statement?

I agree with Ceridwyn.... keel haul the lot, but tie a knot in the rope when their half way!

oh Mr speaker what have you done?

You've fallen on your sword before you could be run through. How could you deny us that pleasure.

But I expect he'll go away with a handsome pension and a seat in the Lords which is very lucrative.

I think the electorate expected that he would be treated like the man in the street would have been under similar circumstances.

But oh no he has a comfortable old age set out for him not like the rest of us who have seen our pensions curtailed.

Not bad for a failure!Innocent

there is a more 'alternative' party thats not as aggressive,Ron, 'The English Democrats' they are patrionic and appear to offer all the 'best' of the main stream parties. They push for all things English but also accept that the Scots, Welsh and Northern Irish exist for the same reason. They are also in favour of St Georges day as a 'national' holiday. (I must have a more serious look at them!). The only problem I see with this party is that only the 'true' English would vote for them and as we have so many 'none native English' now residing here they (sadly) would be out voted.
