Watched the sand storm on a video taken from a helicopter and looked like some giant monster out of a Hollywood movie crawling over the top of Phoenix; weirdest thing you ever saw. Endless cars on the freeway were driving right into it.

Today's newspaper reported the dust cloud as up to 5,000 feet high and 100-150 miles wide and moving along at 50-60 MPH.  Everybody got hit with it.  There wasn't a whole lot of damage, but such storms can be the cause of massive pile-ups on the freeways.  One last year caused a 70 car pile-up, although that storm was nowhere near as massive as the one that hit on Tuesday.

All the summer weather must have landed in the US the past month. It has been hot, hot, hot almost everywhere. Just had a few days respite, but temperatures are expected to go up again today and tomorrow. It gets very humid on the east coast and makes it quite uncomfortable. I'd be glad to send some warmth to you all who need it.
