About Kingston upon Hull
Kingston-upon-Hull is the proper name for this major industrial city which occupies a dynamic waterfront location on the giant River Humber which flows into the eastern coast of England. Long known as an international port and fishing base for deep sea going vessels, Hull, with long seafaring traditions, is a lively and interesting place to visit.
There are many fine old buildings to be seen and this city boasts one of the largest Parish Churches in England. There are fine museums which display tributes to Hull's transport and archeological history as well as to its fishing and shipping industry. In the Art Galleries there are many fine paintings, sculptures and objects of historic interest to be seen and admired.
Out of the depths of the devestating bomb damage of world war two, The Port of Hull has grown and developed so much that it is now recognised as one of the United Kingdom's leading foreign trading ports.
Although Hull remains largely a major industrial and commercial city there is much for the visitor to see and enjoy. There are many miles of beautiful coastline to see and explore, in the city itself you can join in one of the many trails covering the history of fish to ale! The wonderful Futuristic Aquarium is well worth seeing and of course Hull offers every possible facility for modern day enjoyment. Worth a mention is the annually held International Sea Shanty Festival.
