Night Hunter; in this case a Barn Owl. There are a number of species of owl in the Shillingstone area. As well as the Tawney and Little owls that frequent Cookwell and the forestry plantation at Conygar Coppice, a pair of Barn owls nest at Bere Marsh. All of these species can occasionally be seen, at dusk in the trees leading down to the river Stour, by the bird hide on the North Dorset Trailway. Although nocturnal, the Barn Owl is frequently seen in fading daylight.

I'm afraid 'Photoshop' is a bit too technical for me Stephen, I tend to rely on a good camera. All my files open up as Jpgs in Paintshop pro. I cropped some of the sky out of this shot to bring the owl more up front. If you look through the Shillingstone pics., you will see another shot taken at the same spot 5 minutes previous to this one. There is a lot more sky in this one and the rooks are not the main feature. If you wish I will Email the original full shot of the owl to you for your expert oppinion. I'll give myself three for effort on this one.

I must admit Graham I too thought it might be photoshop (sorry) and I am really really pleased it's not! Wow, I am so impressed as I am with so many of your wonderful photos.

Thanks James, but as stated above, I don't like photoshop, it's too complicated for me. All my files open up as jpgs in Paintshop pro. I cropped some of the sky out of this shot and gave it a dose of clarification to bring out the sunrays. Again I'll give myself three for effort?

Graham, I've only just seen your comment about my comment. My opinions are in no way expert, and photoshop is too techinical for me as well. Like you I have paintshop pro. This is a super photo and I will award 5 stars and make my average score 4.
