About Nymans Garden

Nyman's Gardens possesses a rich landscape of rare conifers, shrubs and plants all set around the romantic ruins of a beautiful Gothic mansion.

The gardens have much to admire and delight the senses, a rich perfume from the abundance of vibrant flowers pervades the air particularly in the Wild Garden with its gentle delicate blooms.

Nyman's garden was created between 1885 and 1955, it was begun by Ludwig Messel whose work was continued by his son. The influence of the family is evidenced by the intimate atmosphere of the place. Each garden has its own unique character, and apart from the Wild Garden there is a pretty sunken garden, a walled garden, pinetum, a rock garden and an elegant Italian garden with fountain.

The woodland of the grounds offers tranquil walks under tall branches reaching for the sun. In springtime the woods are covered with early wild daffodils, bluebells and rare plants, whilst later in the year you can enjoy the glory of autumn colours and the sound of leaves crunching beneath your feet.

In the house you may see Lady Rosse's library and drawing room.

For the convenience of visitors there is a shop for souvenirs, a cafe for refreshment, there is also facilities for the disabled.

Nyman's makes a wonderful visit for folk of all ages, it is an experience not to be missed.
